Sara Roberts, The Interchange, Tulle, Foam Insulation, Paint, Floor to Ceiling x 55 in, 2023
Artwork Statement:
The Interchange explores the way in which exchanges that take place in our intimate relationships have a transformative effect on our thoughts, actions, and ideals.
Artist Bio:
Cool and warm. Hard and soft. Stoic and vulnerable. Independent and dependable. These contrasts are the focus of sculptor Sara Roberts' exploration into the complexity and intangibility of intimate personal relationships.
With a specialty in mold-making, casting, and textiles, Sara uses materials that often juxtapose one another in texture, density, and color. Vivid, malleable, and intricately woven fabrics are often paired with blunt and rigid cast elements. This contradiction between the different facets within Sara's work gives rise to conflicting emotions and interpretations, ultimately posing the question: What aspects of ourselves do we unearth when we intertwine our life with someone else?
