Carmen Ordonez, Lowrider Blanco, Archival Inkjet Print, 16.5 x 11.7 in, 2022
Artwork Statement:
Lowrider Blanco is a photograph from the Bajito y depacito (Slow and Low) photo series that I have been working on with the lowrider car club OwnEstilows. These photographs are a glimpse into the Chicago Mexican American lowrider community. My path to developing this series grew from my love for the lowriding culture, the way the cars themselves illustrate their owner's life, and the way lowrider car clubs are structured like a family with endless support for its members. Over the past six months the lowrider family has shared their love and passion of their tradition with me, and I've gained a new fondness and appreciation for both the cars and the people within the community.
